Adam Scott sparred with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's social media team on Wednesday after they used his image.

The 46-year-old actor did not take kind to the team for the Kentucky Republican, 77, using an image of him winking in character as Ben Wyatt on NBC's Parks and Recreation.

The snarky gif was in response to a news item from the political outlet The Hill, in which President Donald Trump said he would fill a supreme court vacancy prior to the 2020 presidential election. 

The issue remains a hotbed of political controversy, as three years ago, McConnell and his party obstructed efforts to appoint former President Barack Obama’s nominee, Merrick Garland, on the basis that it was during an election year.

Scott on Wednesday wrote on his Twitter, 'Dear Mitch McConnell & all those representing him, Please refrain from using my image in support of anything but your own stunning & humiliating defeat. Thanks! Adam.'

McConnell's team replied to the Santa Cruz, California native with an image of the show mocking his character bankrupting a town, but Scott wasn't in the mood for a light-hearted back-and-forth.

His response was a shot of the politician standing in front of a confederate flag, which reported was a purportedly snapped at a Sons of Confederate Veterans event in the 1990s.

A spokesperson for the senator, David Popp, told Time in a statement that the shot was snapped '30 years ago or so' and 'gets "attention on social media" frequently' because of the Democrats, adding 'they’ve been doing this for many, many years.

McConnell's spokesperson defended the politician's track record when it comes to racial issues, saying 'the left trots it out every time Sen. McConnell speaks out on race or the Confederate flag - as he did on Charlottesville, the Confederate flag over SC’s capitol, removing Jefferson Davis from the Kentucky capitol, his comments on Steve King and so on.'
