Piker says the Middle East would stabilize with a nuclear Iran.

The left-wing streamer made the eyebrow-raising argument in an interview with Axios, leaning on the Cold War theory of mutually assured destruction: nuclear-armed rivals are less likely to attack each other when both know the other side can retaliate.

Asked directly whether an Iranian bomb would make the region more stable, Piker answered: “I believe yes. I think that the Middle East would be more stable.”

Piker argued that Iran, like any sovereign country, has a right to defend itself and cited political scientist John Mearsheimer while contending that nuclear weapons can provide countries with what he called “true sovereignty.”

But Piker also added an important qualifier.

“Do I want Iran to have nuclear arms? No,” he said, adding that he also does not want the United States, Russia, or China to possess them. He later stressed that he was not advocating for Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon or weapons-grade uranium.

But the soundbite is out, and the damage to the Democrat brand is done.
