In August of 2014, Robert Connally, 49, was inside his home in Cleveland, Ohio, when he was shot and killed by a single gunshot wound that came through his window. Over a decade later, his daughter, Angela Peck, is still seeking justice in her father’s case.

Peck says that she always saw her father as the coolest dad ever. He worked on cars for as long as she can remember, and having a mechanic for a father who was able to teach her skills like how to change tires and how to put new windshield wipers on has always come in handy.

“Honestly, it was kind of funny because my husband’s car needed wiper blades… and he’s like, ‘I don’t know how to do that,’ and I’m like, ‘Oh, I do. My dad taught me that,’” Peck recalls. “So, it’s just little things like that that I can, like, credit my dad for…”

Their relationship wasn’t all about cars, though. Peck says one of her favorite earliest memories with her father was when they went to see David Copperfield together.

She also recalls when she found out she was pregnant with her daughter. Peck says she was young and it was unexpected. While Robert wasn’t too excited at first, by the time the baby came, his granddaughter had him wrapped around her little finger.

But then, on August 26, 2014, everything changed when Peck received a phone call from her father’s neighbor while at work.

“She called me and she’s like, ‘The ambulance is across the street. You need to get here,’” Peck recalls.

Working in the medical field, Peck originally thought she would just meet them at the hospital, but when the neighbor kept pushing her to leave work and head to Robert’s house, she knew something bad had to have happened.

Peck says she remembers having the gut-wrenching feeling of, “You’re telling me to come to his house, not the hospital, obviously, he’s not alive.”

After having to wait for someone to come relieve her and taking patients’ vitals with tears streaming down her face, Peck finally made it to her father’s house, with her mother following closely behind her.

Peck told us, “I stayed there to see if they would clear the scene as not a homicide so that I could go in and see him, and it was never the case.”

After hearing rumors about what had happened to her father, Peck finally received a phone call two days later from a detective confirming her worst fear- her father had been shot through his window.

Angela Peck was only 28 years old when she lost her father. She’s had to live big life moments without Robert by her side, but she says that she always makes sure to keep his memory alive.

She listens to AC/DC still, saying, “…I can still hear him singling like he is next to me.”

She also bakes him a cake or cupcakes on his birthday, and she says one of her father’s favorite things was going to her home for the holidays and eating her broccoli and cheese casserole that she continues making in his honor.

“I will say that he liked food.”

“His anniversary date I try to do different things to change my mental state,” Peck said.

Some of the ways she’s honored him have included having her gender reveal, where she found out she finally was getting her baby boy, whose middle name is Robert, after the grandfather he never got to meet, on the anniversary date, and she and her husband even got their marriage license on that date.

But Peck told us, “But of course nothing changes, and it’s still that day.”
