Nine people were killed and more than 60 injured in Ukrainian drone strikes that targeted Russian infrastructure including warehouses operated by the country’s biggest e-commerce company, Wildberries, Russian officials said.

The attacks, which took place on the night of 17-18 July, struck two sprawling logistics complexes operated by Wildberries, one in the town of Kotovsk in the Tambov region, about 220 miles from the Ukraine border, and another in the city of Elektrostal, about 30 miles east of Moscow, officials said.

Wildberries founder and chief executive Tatyana Kim said on Saturday morning that the fire at the Kotovsk facility had been put out.

Ukrainian strikes also affected other Russian infrastructure, including an oil depot in the city of Noginsk, just north of Elektrostal, said Andrei Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow region.

Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a social media post on Saturday that long-range strikes had it two “significant logistical facilities in the Moscow and Tambov regions”.

“These facilities were used by the aggressor to supply sanctioned components for the production of drones and navigation equipment,” he said.

He said an oil facility had been hit and that special operations had also struck targets in the Sea of Azov and occupied territory.

Tech infrastructure

Zelenskyy said the strikes were in response to Russian strikes on “our civilian infrastructure and on our cities and communities”.

At the Kotovsk Wildberries facility, seven night-shift workers were killed and 25 others were wounded, Tambov regional governor Yevgeny Pervyshov said. Vorobyov said a total of 37 people were wounded in the Moscow region, with one later dying in hospital.

The Russian Defence Ministry said air defences intercepted 379 Ukrainian drones over 19 Russian regions, as well as Russian-annexed Crimea, the Sea of Azov and the Black Sea.

Russia has struck Ukraine infrastructure targets including its postal service and electronics distributors since it invaded Ukraine in 2022.
