Ukrainian drones struck warehouses belonging to Russian e-commerce giant Wildberries on the night of 3-4 August, in the latest of several strikes on a logistics network Ukraine blames for helping supply the Russian military with drone components and military equipment.

Wildberries acknowledged damage to on one of its logistics hubs near St Petersburg on Tuesday, which led to a fire and no reported casualties.

Another Wildberries facility in the Tver region, north-west of Moscow, was damaged without casualties, said acting regional governor Vitaly Korolyov.

An overnight strike in the city of Chekhov in the Moscow region caused a fire at a facility, killing five people and injuring 10 others, the region’s governor Andrey Vorobyov said.

It was not clear whether that warehouse belonged to Wildberries.

Robert Brovdi, commander of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces, confirmed the attack on the Wildberries warehouse near St Petersburg.

In a Tuesday post on Telegram, he said that over the past 18 days, Ukrainian drones had targeted 15 Wildberries facilities and burned down 13.

Drone warfare

In addition to targeting Russia’s drone-manufacturing capability, the strikes on Wildberries are a response to Russia’s targeting of dozens of facilities belonging to Ukrainian private postal service Nova Poshta.

A Ukrainian drone on Monday struck a crowded beach in the Black Sea resort town of Gelendzhik, in the southern Krasnodar region, killing seven and injuring 40.

That drone was apparently aimed at a nearby plant manufacturing Russian cruise missiles and other weapons, but was brought down before reaching the target.
