The BBC have axed a reality show featuring an impressive A-list judge line-up after just one series.

Project Icon will not return to the channel, with a spokesperson saying 'there are currently no immediate plans for an additional series'.

Jordan North hosted the music competition devised by singer Jason Derulo, 34. 

Derulo, his manager Frank Harris and British singer Becky Hill mentored 10 aspiring recording artists as they were set challenges to compete for a life changing prize. 

The winner secured a record deal, a collaboration with Jason himself and got to perform at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend. 

A BBC spokesperson told TV Zone: 'Project Icon is a bold, contemporary music show that unearthed some brilliant new talent including winner Dylan.

'He has gone all the way from performing in local pubs in Cornwall to recording with Jason Derulo and Frank Harris' music label in LA and performing at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend.

'We are delighted to have played a part in Dylan's music journey and wish him the very best of luck in all his future endeavors.

'Whilst there are currently no immediate plans for an additional series of Project Icon, we'd like to extend our thanks to the entire team at MultiStory Media and ITV America, including Jason and Frank, Becky Hill and presenter Jordan North for bringing the series to screen and unearthing some top tier talent.'

Ahead of the series airing back in March the BBC said of the show: 'This talent show leaves the shiny floor studios behind and instead throws the artists into the real world of today's music industry. 

'Designed to find out who's got what it takes to make it in the fiercely-competitive world of music, the unsigned artists will compete against each other in a series of industry-inspired challenges. 

'Everything from creating viral social media videos, to tricky press interviews and of course the ability to perform on some of the UK's most iconic stages.'

Jason previously said of the show: 'The world of music has changed and being a superstar with staying power today requires a lot more than just singing. 

'Project Icon is the first TV show that will challenge contestants on all realistic skills an artist today should have for a real shot at being an Icon.'

Becky, who found fame on the first series of The Voice UK, added: 'As somebody with first-hand experience of a TV talent show, I know the struggles and stigma that surround trying to make it in the music industry.

'I want to change that narrative for other artists and show them that success in the music industry is about talent, but also and mostly about hard work.

'I feel like Project Icon is a boot camp for artists, showing them the fun parts of this life, but also the real work that goes in to becoming a true icon. This is the training I wish I had all of those years ago.'

Meanwhile Jordan added that he was 'well excited to be the host' and to help 'find fresh musical talent' and uncover the next big music star.
