Robert Pattinson has upset fans for appearing to joke that his past relationship with Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart had 'red flag' written all over it.

The English actor, 39, was at the Rome premiere of his new movie The Drama alongside his co-star Zendaya, who has been causing a bit of buzz on her own, when he was asked what sign he considered to be a red flag in a relationship.

'Like Zodiac sign? Aries,' Pattinson replied with feigned seriousness before he laughed and quickly added, 'I'm joking. I just picked a random one!'

But fans weren't laughing and a few took to social media to mention that Stewart, 35, was an Aries, who, according to astrology, are known to be bold, passionate and natural leaders.

'JAJAJAJAJAJAJAAJJA Kris is Aries,' one commenter wrote on X under a clip of Pattinson's interview.

'100% shading Kristen Stewart,' another wrote, while a third chimed in, 'Hahaha Kristen steward is aries.'

'You can see him panicking realising what he'd done,' a fourth ventured to say.

'Randomly? Really?' another X user clearly felt compelled to write.

The British actor and the Hollywood star developed a real-life romance during the filming of the Twilight franchise and dated for four years.

The couple went through a rocky period after Stewart's cheating scandal with Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders in July 2012.

Stewart issued a public apology for hurting Pattinson.

'This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry,' she said in a statement.

In 2021, the indie darling admitted to The New Yorker that she had swooned over Pattinson from the start.

'It was so clear who worked. I was literally just, like…,' she said while pretending to swoon.

She added that he had an 'intellectual approach that was combined with "I don't give a f**k about this, but I'm going to make this sing." And I was, like, "Ugh, same."

'Whatever, we were young and stupid and, not to say that we made it so much better, but that's what it needed, and that's what anybody playing those parts needed to feel.'

Stewart came out as gay while hosting Saturday Night Live in 2017.

After a string of brief relationships, including with visual effects producer Alicia Cargile, French singer Soko, musician St Vincent, model Stella Maxwell and stylist Sara Dinkin, Stewart found lasting love with screenwriter Dylan Meyer, 38, in 2019.

In April 2025, the pair wed in a small ceremony at Mexican restaurant Casita Del Campo in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles, which is a favorite haunt of theirs.

Pattinson, meanwhile, has been in a long-term relationship with Suki Waterhouse, 34, since 2018.

The movie heartthrob and the actress-singer welcomed their first child, a girl, in March 2024.

Pattinson caused a stir of a different kind when he hinted that he secretly married Waterhouse.

The actor and his The Drama co-star Zendaya were asked by Extra about the biggest secret they had ever kept.

Zendaya, who has been rumored to have secretly married her partner Tom Holland, coyly replied, 'Nothing that comes to mind.'

Then the ball was in Pattinson's court and he answered with look at Zendaya, 'It's the same one that you have.'
