Joe R. Buckley, Sr.
Joe R. Buckley, Sr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, businessman, and man of faith, passed away surrounded by the love and legacy of a family he cherished deeply.
Joe was born on Dec. 3, 1940, to Ross and Christine Buckley. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Betty Jo Julian Buckley. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, family, and lasting memories. They were blessed with two children, Sheila Buckley Keasler and Joe R. Buckley Jr.
Joe's family continued to grow through the years, bringing him tremendous pride and happiness. He was blessed with seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. To Joe, family was one of life's greatest gifts, and some of his happiest times were those spent together.
For more than 30 years, Joe owned and operated an independent insurance agency. Through his work, he served his community and built relationships that extended well beyond business. His many years as a business owner reflected his dedication, hard work, and commitment to the people he served.
Faith was an important part of Joe's life. He was a faithful member of Tyner United Methodist Church for more than 55 years and later became a member of Silverdale Baptist Church. His many years of church involvement were a reflection of the faith and values that helped guide him throughout his life.
Joe especially loved being outdoors. Fishing and hunting with his family and friends brought him great joy. More than the hunt or the catch, it was the time spent together—the conversations, stories, laughter, and memories that made those days special.
Joe leaves behind his beloved wife, Betty Jo Julian Buckley; his children, Sheila Buckley Keasler (Jeff) and Joe R. Buckley Jr. (Dee Dee); his seven grandchildren: Taylor Keasler Reed (Matt), Bonnie Buckley Arnold (Mitchell), Ross Keasler (Sarah), Joseph Buckley (Ana Karen), Allie Keasler Teal (Joseph), Savannah Buckley Lovell (Collin), Clay Buckley (Timber) and 12 great-grandchildren; and the extended family and friends whose lives he touched throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Christine Buckley.
Joe's life was one of faith, family, hard work, and devotion. His greatest legacy can be seen in the generations of family who follow him and in the memories they will continue to share. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends from 12-3 p.m. in the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home on Sunday, Aug. 23. A celebration of life will follow in the chapel at 3 p.m. with Rev. Charlie Harrison officiating. A private burial will be held by the family.
