St. John Fisher University has joined JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services as a Tier 2 participant, and will use JSTOR’s integrated platform to support the management, preservation, and discovery of its digital collections.

Home to distinctive materials including abolitionist-era newspapers, recordings from the history of radio broadcasting in Rochester, NY, and a growing body of faculty and student scholarship, Fisher will gain access to JSTOR Stewardship’s digital asset management system alongside Portico for long-term preservation and built-in sharing to JSTOR for broader reach and discovery. Initial priorities for Fisher include improving searchability of their collections by leveraging built-in optical character recognition (OCR) for newspapers and automatic transcription for audio materials. 

“Improving discoverability for our materials, including both text and audio, will make it much easier for people to use our collections,” said Julia Novakovic, Head of Special Collections and University Archivist at Fisher. “We’re eager to bring our materials into JSTOR Stewardship, where they can be not only stored, but made discoverable and usable.”
