Two women who have accused Graham Platner of wrongdoing in their relationships are calling on Ellsworth progressives to cancel a Labor Day event featuring the ex-Democratic Senate candidate.

Platner is slated to speak at a Labor Day event in Ellsworth hosted by Hancock County Activists. Jenny Racicot and Lyndsey Fifield, who each dated Platner and went on the record with allegations of troubling behavior — including, in Racicot’s case, sexual assault — called for the Hancock County group to cancel the event. Platner has said that he has not physically or sexually abused anyone.

“In the weeks since we spoke out, Graham Platner has had every opportunity to take accountability for the pain he has caused. Instead, he has continued to double down — discrediting us and telling blatant lies about his past. And now, he’s trying to sweep the truth under the rug and pretend things are back to normal,” Fifield and Racicot said in a joint statement. “Our message to Mainers: stand with survivors and refuse to platform abusers.”

Fifield accused Platner of threatening behavior, telling The New York Times in May that he regularly grabbed her during arguments. On one occasion, he left marks, she said.

In response, Platner and his campaign denied the allegations and noted that Fifield has worked for conservative causes in the past in an attempt to discredit her story.

A few weeks later, Democratic voters chose Platner to be their U.S. Senate nominee.

Then, in July, Racicot told Politico that Platner raped her in 2021. Racicot’s account was corroborated by a man she dated and told about the incident years later, and by emails that reporters reviewed between Racicot and her therapist. Platner again flatly denied Racicot’s report.

“The things that have been claimed did not happen,” he said in a video announcing he was suspending his campaign. “It’s not real.”
