Love Island alum Megan Barton-Hanson has revealed Sherif Lanre 'must have done something serious' to be booted out of the villa after nine days.

The model, 25, confessed she is 'totally baffled' by the news that Sherif, 20, was axed from the ITV2 reality show for 'breaking the villa rules'. 

She told the Sun: 'I reckon he must have done some something SERIOUS, God knows what it was.

'I don't know what on earth it could have been. I know it's a lot to go into with a show like this and you've got to be willing to stick to all the rules and regulations.'

Megan went on to say she would have thought Sherif would be too 'engrossed in the moment' to be 'interested in anything else'.

She said: 'There's always cameras on you 24/7 so they see everything. It's a bit naive of him to try and get away with something on there.' 

And the beauty, who appeared in the Love Island villa last summer, said his departure was 'tragic' as a 'romance was blossoming' between him and Anna Vakili, 28.

It comes after Sherif's mother Diana Rollanson-Williams blasted the ITV2 show for treating her son 'unfairly' following his shock departure.

Diana told MailOnline she has spoken to the chef since he was axed from the hit show for breaking the rules, but insists she doesn't know the full story.  

Diana said: 'I don't know the real reason yet, but I'm determined to get to the bottom of it. I need to look at his Love Island code of conduct and I need to speak to him properly to find out what really happened.

'But I'm his mum, I'm going to think it was a bit unfair. I think so. I'm going to defend my son.'

Diana, a psychotherapist, said Sherif had not gone looking for fame but had been 'plucked from obscurity' to appear on the show.

She said: 'He is a lovely, lovely young man, a great boy. He is not a fame chaser. He was not looking for fame.

'He was spotted buying a sandwich by producers and asked to go on the show so he isn't "fame-hungry".' 

Sherif broke his silence soon after he left the show, with an apology, admitting he 'didn't conduct himself in the right way.'

His departure comes just nine days after the ITV2 programme began. 

Sherif added in a statement to MailOnline: 'In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa.

'I regret that I didn't conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20-year-old guy, it's something I know I will take on board and learn from.

'I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside.'

A spokesperson added: 'After breaking the villa rules, Sherif had conversations with the producers and it was mutually agreed that he would leave the Love Island villa.'
