BIDDEFORD — A tiny Maine diner went national Thursday morning in a segment on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Palace Diner has been a popular neighborhood spot for decades, and it’s also been gaining recognition online. Food influencer Kaitlyn Lavery raved about the diner on TikTok last week, and New England-based foodies Sistersnacking regularly post about the pancake stacks.
Now, it’s “Good Morning America” taking a seat inside Maine’s oldest dining car.
Palace Diner has been part of Biddeford’s dining landscape since 1927 and has been run by duo Greg Mitchell and Chad Conley since 2014. The well-loved spot has been cranking out a small, classic diner menu on Franklin Street for years.
Conley said Thursday that it was exciting when “Good Morning America” reached out.
“It was super fun to film,” he said. “They were a really energetic, positive group of people.”
Fitting the professional camera crew inside the small diner — it only features 15 counter stools — was a challenge, but they made it work.
“We’re very grateful to the customers who were amused at how much space ‘Good Morning America’ had to take up,” Conley said.
The menu features the usual suspects: giant buttermilk pancake stacks, corned beef hash, cheeseburgers and omelets.
But the biggest draw for many? The tuna melt.
That’s what “Good Morning America” correspondent Becky Worley ordered in Thursday’s segment, noting the sheer volume of the tuna melt.

It’s a classic tuna melt, taken to the next level: two griddled pieces of challah bread, layered with tuna salad, bread and butter pickles and a giant stack of crisp iceberg lettuce.
Two customers told the show they came all the way from Philadelphia to try the sandwich — and it lived up to the hype.
“I wish I lived closer so I could come here every day,” one said.
On Facebook, Biddeford residents praised “Good Morning America” for featuring the beloved hometown spot as part of its “Order Up: Diners Across America” series.
“If people thought it was busy before, it’s about to be slammed,” Léla Lee wrote. “Good for them!”

Although he could “always get a seat” when the diner reopened under Conley and Mitchell’s ownership, Biddeford-Saco Chamber of Commerce director Alex MacPhail said Thursday that he can’t stress enough how much Palace Diner has meant to Biddeford’s resurgence.
“Their commitment to great food and staying original was one of the earliest catalysts for this ‘foodie revolution’ in Biddeford,” MacPhail said. “We are proud and grateful to have them in our downtown Biddeford community.”
