In the first week of July, PhD candidates, practicing lawyers and civil society participants set course for Amsterdam to attend IViR’s annual Summer Course on International Copyright and Policy. During five days, the students attended comprehensive sessions from distinguished scholars and practitioners in the field of international copyright. The group’s variety in professional and academic backgrounds led to insightful discussions, particularly on the key topic of copyright and artificial intelligence, which remains a focal point of debate today.

Of course, all hard work was well rewarded: after the seminars, participants enjoyed a boat tour through the picturesque Amsterdam canals and shared drinks under sunny skies at the  Roeterseiland campus. As the memorable Summer Course week has now come to a close, IViR already greatly looks forward to the next edition in 2027!

In the same week IViR also organized the 2026 Summer Course on European Platform Regulation in Amsterdam. Over five packed days, participants from academia, civil society, regulatory bodies, legal practice, and industry came together for seminar-style discussions on some of the most pressing questions in European platform governance. Topics included the DSA’s risk-based approach, its relation to algorithmic governance, human rights, and access to justice, the role of the European Commission and Digital Services Coordinators in enforcement, as well as the Digital Markets Act and other related legal frameworks.

Thank you to the fantastic participants, who brought diverse perspectives from different countries and professional backgrounds and made the discussions as rich and engaging as they were. We’re leaving the week with a number of new connections and renewed enthusiasm for the work ahead.
