City leaders and community members gathered Saturday for a vigil honoring two victims of a shooting that left one of them dead in North Philadelphia earlier this week.
The vigil comes three days after police identified Shariff Perry as the suspect wanted in the Aug. 9 double shooting on North 24th Street that killed Michelle Wilson, 61, and injured her 67-year-old husband.
According to Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace, the incident unfolded late Sunday at about 11:49 p.m. on the 2800 block of North 24th Street, when officers responded to a report of a person with a gun.
When they arrived, first responders found Wilson and her husband suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, officials said. Wilson had been shot in her neck and back and, police said, the man was shot in his buttocks.
The victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where Wilson died.
Police said both victims were shot outside of their home.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner attended the vigil after receiving an invitation, he said: “I always think it’s important.”
Krasner said the suspect was not yet in custody, but his office was working with law enforcement to support the investigation.
“I have confidence that we are actually going to see the responsible individuals in custody facing a fair trial and getting the consequence that they will deserve,” Krasner said.
Asked about a motive for the shooting, the District Attorney specifically mentioned a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer, which cited law enforcement sources who said the shooting may have been retaliation for a different homicide.
“I don’t want to confirm exactly what we know because it’s a very active investigation,” Krasner said.
“It’s always wrong, but it’s even more upsetting when it’s innocent people who are somehow being retaliated against for something they didn’t do. It’s just awful,” he said. “I’m not saying that’s correct or incorrect, I’m just saying there has been reporting around it, and it’s a very active investigation.”
Krasner urged the community to come forward with any information they may know.

Neighbors and friends spoke at the vigil as well. Among them was Keith Dial, who said he had known Wilson since the second grade.
“The whole block is grieving now, and so that’s why we’re here,” Dial said. “Me and her [were] in the second grade together. She sat right next to me. I’ve been knowing her all my life. Beautiful person. She recently retired from the Philadelphia Water Department. So it hurts deep.”
Surveillance video obtained by NBC10 shows the moment a man wearing a baseball cap and a medical mask walked towards the scene. In the video, he appears to produce, what looks like, a handgun from a bag before moving it to the inside of his coat as he walks along the sidewalk.
An investigation has since identified Perry as the suspect and he has been charged with murder and related offenses, police said.
Shariff Perry
As of early Saturday, he had not been apprehended.
Anyone with any information on Perry’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-3334 or 215-686-TIPS (8477) or anonymously online here.
Gun Violence Concerns
According to Philadelphia crime statistics, there have been 111 homicides so far in 2026, which is down 21% from this point in 2025.
But to residents of North Philadelphia at the vigil on Saturday, the improvement was not enough and more needed to be done.
“We thought that this would be a good opportunity to come together, to really emphasize to the community as well as to the city officials, the need for more police presence, the need for more resources to be, you know, disseminated amongst our communities,” said Marvina Williams.
Councilmember Cindy Bass told attendees of the vigil that the city’s work continues to try to reduce gun violence.
“We have only yet gotten started with needs to happen for our communities to be safe and feel safe,” she said.

NBC10 has obtained surveillance video that caught a man as he appears to put a handgun in his coat moments prior to when a woman was killed and a man hurt when shots were fired at the married couple, in their 60s, during an incident that happened on the 2800 block of North 24th Street overnight.
