Zain Bahrain sees the AI deployment as the first step toward smarter, adaptive and future-ready networks.

Zain Bahrain has become the first telecom operator in the region to deploy artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities within its live 5G radio network, following a partnership with Ericsson aimed at enhancing network performance and supporting Bahrain’s digital transformation, according to Trade Arabia.

The operator said the deployment marks a key milestone in its broader strategy to integrate AI across its operations, network infrastructure and customer services to deliver smarter and more efficient digital experiences. The initiative also aligns with Zain Group’s 4WARD – Progress with Purpose strategy, which focuses on using technology to improve digital services and build a more connected future.

The deployment follows the successful evaluation of Ericsson’s AI-native Scheduler for Link Adaptation solution on Zain Bahrain’s live network. The technology enables the network to make intelligent, real-time decisions based on changing traffic demands and user behaviour, improving overall network speed, efficiency and responsiveness.

Ali Isa Al Yaham, Chief Technology Officer of Zain Bahrain, described the achievement as a major milestone in the company’s efforts to build next-generation telecommunications networks. He said the deployment is not only about introducing advanced technology but also about delivering faster, smarter and more reliable connectivity for customers.

Al Yaham added that the initiative supports Bahrain’s national digital transformation agenda and Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 while advancing Zain Bahrain’s transition from a traditional telecommunications operator to a technology solutions provider. He said the company remains committed to investing in innovations that improve customer experiences and contribute to the Kingdom’s digital ambitions.

Zain Bahrain said the successful deployment is the beginning of a broader transformation towards more intelligent and adaptive telecommunications networks. The company is now exploring additional AI-powered applications across network and customer operations to further improve efficiency and enhance digital services.

According to the operator, customers will benefit from smoother, faster and more resilient mobile connectivity, particularly when using data-intensive applications such as video streaming, online gaming, video conferencing, social media and cloud-based services. The company added that the deployment has already delivered measurable improvements in network speed and operational efficiency, demonstrating the growing role of AI in creating smarter and future-ready mobile networks.
