Congratulations go to six postgraduate students who won awards at the 2015 Oxford Computer Science Student conference.  The standard of the presentations was so high that it was impossible to pick an overall winner and so there were two winners in each category

• Andrew Paverd, Best Talk award for 'Applications of a Trustworthy Remote Entity'
• Daniel Nichol, Best Talk award for 'Steering Evolution with Combination Therapy to Prevent the Emergence of Bacterial Antibiotic Resistance'
• Varduhi Yeghiazaryan, 'Best Poster award for Comparison of Evaluation Methods for Medical Image Segmentation'
• Gonzalo Diaz, Best Poster award for 'The Exact Complexity of the First-Order Logic Definability Problem'
• Simon Eberz, Best Abstract award for 'Looks like Eve: Exposing Insider Threats Using Eye Movement Biometrics'
• Ciaran Lee, Best Abstract award for 'Computation in Generalised Probabilistic Theories.'

William Smith and Ashutosh Natraj, part of the team behind this year’s conference, commented that the conference is organised by students for students and with the involvement of all members of the Programme Committee this year, it was a particular pleasure to organise.

The keynote speaker was Stephen Pulman, who opened the conference with an inspiring talk on  ‘Signals from text:  sentiment, emotion, deception’.  Stephen was also part of the prize-giving committee who were impressed with the very high quality of the content and presentation of the talks and posters.

Established in the late 1990’s the conference was originally held biennially but is now an annual event and is open to all students and staff within the Department and associated Centres for Doctoral Training.  This year the Conference took place on Friday 12^th June and included 11 talks and 10 posters with representation from a variety of research areas.  The conference dinner held at Rewley House attended by almost 40 students and staff.
