Nolechek’s Meats closing, sells off property

THORP — Nolechek’s Meats is ending 71 years in business and has sold its facilities to a local butcher supply store.

The fourth-generation family-run Thorp business announced in April that it would be ceasing production on Aug. 31 and selling off its inventory until it’s gone — Sept. 30 at the latest.

An update posted in late June to the company’s website announced a buyer had been found for the buildings and real estate in Thorp.

Caleb Martin, owner of butcher supply store Rocky Ridge Outdoors, purchased the Nolechek’s operation and will reopen it as Butcher Block Market.

The new business will have deli-style retail — including locally sourced selections of fresh and smoked meats, cheeses and other specialty items, according to the online post about the transition.

WESTconsin Credit Union building in Rice Lake

RICE LAKE — WESTconsin Credit Union plans to start construction of a Rice Lake office in September, the local financial institution announced Friday.

The Menomonie-headquartered credit union’s first building in Rice Lake will be located at 21 E. Burton St.

This will be a full-service office that will include mortgage lenders, business loan officers and investment team advisers.

If construction goes as planned, the Rice Lake office will open for business in June 2024, according to a WESTconsin news release.
