Trent Alexander-Arnold sent out a defiant message after being named in England's 26-man squad for this summer's European Championship. 

The Liverpool defender had been expected to miss out amid competition from Kieran Trippier, Reece James and Kyle Walker.

But the 22-year-old was selected on Tuesday after a late change of heart by England boss Gareth Southgate.

And Alexander-Arnold tweeted: 'Always believe in yourself. Silence the doubters.'   

Southgate selected 10 defenders for the tournament including Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Ben Chilwell (Chelsea), Conor Coady (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Reece James (Chelsea), Harry Maguire (Manchester United), Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa), Luke Shaw (Manchester United), John Stones (Manchester City), Kieran Trippier (Atletico Madrid) and Kyle Walker (Manchester City).

He selected goalkeepers Dean Henderson (Manchester United), Sam Johnstone (West Bromwich Albion) and Jordan Pickford (Everton).

There were five midfielders were Jude Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Mason Mount (Chelsea), Kalvin Phillips (Leeds United), Declan Rice (West Ham United)

And the eight forwards featured Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Everton), Phil Foden (Manchester City), Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund) and Raheem Sterling (Manchester City).

Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White, Ben Godfrey, James Ward-Prowse, Jesse Lingard and Ollie Watkins have been left out of Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad for the European Championship, the Football Association has announced. 

Raheem Sterling posted an image of himself wearing an England shirt on Twitter - drawing attention to the badge - with the caption: 'Can't wait to get going.'

Harry Maguire tweeted an image of himself in the stands alongside one of the squad list, with the caption: 'Last Euros as a fan. This Euros as a player. Huge honour - can't wait to get started.'

Marcus Rashford tweeted an image of his younger self wearing an England kit, with the caption: 'My pride at pulling on the shirt is limitless.' 

Leeds midfielder Kalvin Phillips tweeted: "An absolute honour and dream come true to be able to represent England at a major tournament like this. I'll give it my all to make this country proud."

Kyle Walker posted a tweet, which read: "Delighted to be selected for the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2021 tournament.

"It's always an honour and I look forward to meeting up with the boys on Friday."
