New Delhi: Telecom subscriber base in the country increased marginally to 134.8 crore in June, driven by net addition of subscribers on the networks of Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, according to data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Tuesday.

Bharti Airtel led subscriber growth during the month, adding 31.63 lakh users compared with May. The additions included 29.89 lakh mobile subscribers and 1.73 lakh fixed-line connections.

It was followed by Reliance Jio which reported a net addition of 22.91 lakh subscribers, comprising 21.46 lakh in mobile segment and 1.44 lakh in fixed line segment.

Together, the two private telecom operators accounted for 54.54 lakh, or about 87 per cent, of the total net addition of 62 lakh subscribers in June.

"The number of total telephone subscribers in India increased from 1,343.1 million at the end of May 2026 to 1,348.08 million at the end of June 2026, thereby showing a monthly growth rate of 0.37 per cent," sector regulator TRAI's monthly data subscriber report for June 2026 said.

The total number of wireless connections in June increased to 130 crore from 129.4 crore in May. The total wireless connections comprised 114.7 crore consumer sim, 13.47 crore M2M sim and 1.78 crore fixed wireless access connections.

Vodafone Idea reported net addition of 1.63 lakh wireless subscribers.

State-run BSNL added 94,006 subscribers during the reported month.

MTNL lost 11,284 mobile subscribers in June.

The wireline subscriber base declined 1.67 per cent on monthly basis to 4.78 crore in June, from 4.86 crore in May, mainly due to BSNL losing 7.96 lakh fixed line subscribers.

Only Airtel, Reliance Jio and STPL added new subscribers, while rest all the companies including Vodafone Idea, MTNL, APSFL, Tata Teleservices, Quadrant reported decline in fixed line connections.

As per the information filed by 1,580 operators for June 2026, the total number of broadband subscribers increased to 108.75 crore from 108 crore in May.

Reliance Jio led the segment with 53.22 crore broadband subscribers.

It was followed by Bharti Airtel with 37.99 crore subscribers, Vi 13 crore, BSNL 2.7 crore and Atria Convergence 24.5 lakh broadband subscribers.
