Array Labs, a Silicon Valley startup specialising in radar payloads for satellite buses, has raised $21 million in a strategic investment round.
The funding was lead by Mitsubishi Electric. And there was also ongoing participation from Catapult Ventures, Kompas VC, and Y Combinator.
As part of the financing, Array Labs and Mitsubishi Electric announce they have entered into a partnership for satellite-based airborne tracking services. This will mainly be for defense and security customers in the Asia Pacific Region.
“Defence and intelligence customers have been asking for this capability for years, and this round lets us move faster to deliver it. An oversubscribed round anchored by a partner of Mitsubishi Electric’s calibre is a strong signal that the market sees the same opportunity we do,” said Isaac Robledo, COO and co-founder of Array Labs.
The latest investment follows Array’s Series A fundraising, from back in January.
Array Labs contrasts its continuous 2D and 3D approach – with fleets of radar satellites – with traditional static imaging.
Real-time monitoring of aircraft and ships, it claims, has long been recognised as a critical capability gap. For example, a static image might tell you about a location at some point in the past. A continuous feed, however, can provide insight into how things are changing, where, and how fast.
Masahiko Arai – Executive Office, Company President, Defense and Space Systems, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation – comments:
“We are very pleased to collaborate with Array Labs, which aims to demonstrate its game-changing AMTI (Airborne Moving Target Indicator) technology.”
“By combining the technological capabilities and maximizing the synergies of our two companies, we expect to strengthen our ability to respond comprehensively to customer needs in the security field.”
Array LabsIn the last two years, Array Labs highlights it has won contracts with the U.S. military, U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), and the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). For example, working on high-power antenna architectures and high-bandwidth communications links.
It currently has two prototype satellites in orbit featuring its radar payloads, since 2024. And it plans to launch another demonstration mission this year.
