Steven William Price was born on January 13, 1955, in Adelaide, South Australia. He entered journalism in the 1970s, initially working in newspapers for News Limited.

Price eventually moved into radio, where the combination of news, politics, opinion, and listener interaction suited his confrontational broadcasting style. He became associated with Melbourne station 3AW during the 1980s and held both programming and presenting responsibilities.

Beginning in 1987, Price hosted 3AW's drive-time program. His tenure coincided with the station's emergence as a dominant force in Melbourne talk radio, and he also served as a program director during portions of his career there.

In 2002, Price moved from Melbourne to Sydney radio, taking over the morning shift at 2UE. The station was one of Australia's best-known talk stations and had a roster that included veteran broadcaster John Laws.

In 2021, Southern Cross Austereo launched "Australia Today with Steve Price," a weekday national talk program distributed through the LiSTNR platform and participating radio stations. Price developed a second public profile through television. He became a regular panelist and commentator on Network 10's "The Project," where his conservative political views frequently put him at odds with other members of the panel.

In 2017, Price joined the third season of the Australian reality series "I'm a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!" Filmed in South Africa, the competition put celebrities through challenges while they lived together in a jungle camp. Price remained on the program for 42 days and finished fifth.
