More than 1.01 crore passengers have registered for MSRTC’s National Common Mobility Card, with nearly 65 lakh cards activated as Maharashtra moves towards cashless bus ticketing.

Over one crore passengers have registered for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation's (MSRTC) National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), officials said on Thursday.

Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik said in a release that as of August 12, a total of 1,01,73,838 passengers had registered for the NCMC smart card, while 64,91,065 cards had been activated.

The NCMC initiative is aimed at making ticketing on state-run buses more convenient and cashless.

In the first phase, NCMC cards are being issued to women, senior citizens and Amrut senior citizens. The cards will be mandatory for these categories from September 1, 2026.

Registration for NCMC cards for school students across the state will begin from August 15, the release said.

Authorised representatives of the MSRTC will visit schools to complete the registration process, and students have been advised not to register for the cards through any other channels.
