Semiconductor equipment manufacturer ISTE posted its highest quarterly results on record, the company announced on August 13.
Second-quarter revenue reached approximately 16.85 billion won, surging 401% from a year earlier. Operating profit stood at 2.07 billion won and net income at 1.77 billion won, with both turning profitable compared to losses in the same period last year.
Compared with the previous quarter, revenue rose approximately 164%, operating profit increased about 288%, and net income climbed around 142%.
Wafer-transfer-container cleaning equipment for front opening unified pods (FOUPs) drove the increase in revenue. On a cumulative first-half basis, these products accounted for about 70% of total sales.
ISTE expanded supplies of FOUP cleaners for front-end and back-end processes to major semiconductor manufacturers starting in the second quarter. Notably, the NFC400 back-end FOUP cleaner is utilized extensively in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) production.
ISTE began securing orders for equipment from SK Hynix starting in the first quarter, building a robust order backlog to support stable revenue in the second half. In the second quarter, the company received its initial order from Samsung Electronics for HBM FOUP cleaners, successfully diversifying its customer base.
The equipment business also enhanced profitability by increasing shipments of high-value-added products, resulting in an operating margin of 15.3% for the equipment division.
ISTE will continue its strategic cooperation with Samsung Electronics on packaging-related projects. The companies are jointly developing a next-generation FOUP cleaner for advanced packaging that incorporates South Korea’s first vacuum-type technology. This system is designed to significantly improve cleaning performance and drying efficiency compared to conventional methods while minimizing fine particulate contamination. Furthermore, they are evaluating a FOUP inspection integrated system aimed at boosting yields in advanced semiconductor manufacturing by combining cleaning and inspection functions into a single unit.
ISTE is actively responding to surging demand for equipment tailored to manufacture advanced HBM semiconductors. Meanwhile, its hydrogen-energy business also posted robust growth, with cumulative external revenue in the first half reaching 1.536 billion won—up 29.1% from a year earlier.
Cho Chang-hyun, chief executive officer of ISTE, said, "We achieved the highest quarterly revenue since our founding, driven by a higher share of high-value-added products and customer diversification," adding that the company maintains an order backlog of 41.4 billion won as of the end of the second quarter, supporting expectations for continued growth in the second half.
