The Tampa Bay Buccaneers received some welcome news regarding second-year wide receiver Emeka Egbuka.

Egbuka left Wednesday’s joint practice against the New York Jets after appearing to favor his leg. The situation initially created some concern, especially after head coach Todd Bowles did not provide an update afterward.

Fortunately for Tampa Bay, the injury appears to be minor.

According to NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo, Egbuka suffered a minor toe injury. That report lines up with comments from Bucky Irving following the practice.

“I think he’s pretty good. He just got rolled over on,” Irving told Garafolo and Maurice Jones-Drew.

The injury is now being described as a toe sprain, which should provide some relief for the Buccaneers.

Egbuka enters his second NFL season with significant expectations. The Buccaneers are counting on him to take another step forward in 2026.

He already showed plenty of promise during Tuesday’s joint practice against the Jets. Egbuka made a spectacular catch that quickly became one of the day’s highlights.

Tampa Bay needs more plays like that once the regular season arrives. Egbuka has an opportunity to become one of Baker Mayfield’s most important weapons.

The Buccaneers have playoff aspirations after missing the postseason last year. Keeping Egbuka healthy will be an important part of making that push.

For now, Tampa Bay can breathe a little easier. What initially looked concerning appears to be nothing more than a minor toe injury.
