Parents are being urged to check their children's toys over a potentially life-threatening issue.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a bleak warning about a slide playset that could leave children trapped by the head or neck.

The warning applies to the WPX-4 indoor and outdoor slide playset, made by Wenzhou Yidian Amusement Equipment Co, Ltd.

According to the CPSC, the playsets have several openings that are big enough for a child's torso to fit through, but too small for their head to pass through. That means a child could become trapped by the head or neck, creating a risk of serious injury or even death. 

The agency said one incident with the playset ended in a toddler dying, although the details surrounding that case are limited.

'CPSC is aware of one report of an entrapment incident that resulted in the death of a 17-month-old child,' a statement says. 

The plastic playsets, manufactured in China, were designed to be used indoors or outdoors. They come with a collection of activities to keep young children entertained, including a tunnel, slide and basketball hoop. 

They have been sold in different colors like red, navy, coffee, gray, green and yellow – some versions also have a vehicle-shaped section attached to the side. 

Parents are being urged to check the label on their playset.

The affected product is Model WPX-4, and the label identifies the manufacturer as Wenzhou Yidian Amusement Equipment Co, Ltd.

If that's the product in your home, the CPSC says not to let your child use it, adding that owners should dispose of the playset and, importantly, should not sell it, donate it or give it away to another family.

This is a safety warning, as opposed to a recall, which means the products are not being taken back by the brand.

This is just one warning in a string of recalls impacting parents and families. Earlier this year, Walmart took back more than 16,800 fabric dressers after the furniture failed federal stability tests. 

That meant to children were at risk of being crushed in tip-over incidents.

The CPSC said it received no reports of injuries or incidents involving the recalled dressers, but still urged consumers to stop using the units immediately unless they are securely anchored to a wall and to move any unanchored dressers to an area that children cannot access.
