The manual transmission isn't disappearing from the Porsche 911 without a fight. After launching the updated 992.2-generation Carrera S exclusively with an eight-speed PDK, Porsche has reversed course for North America following what it describes as "overwhelming customer demand."
The result is the 2027 Porsche 911 Carrera S with MT Package, which pairs the Carrera S's 473-horsepower twin-turbo flat-six with a six-speed manual transmission. Better yet, Porsche didn't simply swap gearboxes. The North America-exclusive sports car comes loaded with performance features that push it closer to the enthusiast-focused side of the 911 family. Orders open today, with deliveries expected by the end of 2026.
North America Wanted A Manual Carrera S

The six-speed gearbox is shared with the Carrera T and offered exclusively with rear-wheel drive. Buyers can choose between coupe and Cabriolet body styles. The Carrera S also gives manual buyers considerably more muscle than the Carrera T. Its 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six produces 473 horsepower, while Porsche openly admits the manual model prioritizes driving enjoyment over achieving the quickest possible acceleration. Porsche's North America President and CEO Timo Resch made the company's reasoning clear.
"Managing a clutch and shift lever isn't for everyone, but for the drivers who want it there really is no substitute."
The addition means Porsche will offer seven manual 911 variants in North America, ranging from the Carrera T to the GT3 family.

The MT Package also brings much more than just a clutch pedal. Rear-axle steering, Sport Chrono, unique exhaust tuning, and PASM Sport suspension that lowers the car by 10 mm all come standard. Porsche is also fitting center-lock wheels to a Carrera S for the first time, saving more than 17 pounds compared to the standard Carrera S wheels. Despite the extra performance equipment and more powerful engine, the manual Carrera S coupe weighs just 3,327 pounds, only 11 pounds more than the Carrera T coupe.

Standard brakes measure 408 mm up front and 380 mm at the rear, while Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes and carbon-fiber bucket seats remain optional. A walnut shift handle, titanium exhaust outlets, SportDesign front fascia, and red "S" badge help distinguish the manual model visually.
Porsche Is Keeping Three Pedals Alive

The 2027 Carrera S with MT Package starts at $167,100 for the coupe and $181,000 for the Cabriolet, excluding Porsche's $2,350 delivery, processing, and handling fee.
That's serious money, but Porsche is giving North American enthusiasts something increasingly difficult to find. Buyers get 473 horsepower, rear-wheel drive, six gears they have to select themselves, and performance equipment normally buried on the options list.
More importantly, the manual Carrera S exists because Porsche customers asked for it. While three pedals continue disappearing elsewhere in the performance-car market, Porsche just added another manual 911 to the lineup. Sometimes, progress really does mean adding a third pedal.
