KENNEBUNK – David Gibson Arnold, 68, of Kennebunk Beach, passed away peacefully on Aug. 7, 2026, surrounded by his closest family, after facing glioblastoma with grace and courage.
Born on Nov. 17, 1957, to Bill and Daisy Arnold in Weybridge, Surrey, England, David spent his childhood between England, Mexico City, and Toronto. He attended Middlesex School in Concord, Massachusetts, and graduated from Rollins College in 1979. He joined the Marine Corps in November 1980, following in the footsteps of his father and brother, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant. He served as a Rifle Platoon Commander with 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, in Okinawa, Japan, and was later promoted to Captain.
Family was the center of David’s world, and being a husband, father, and grandfather was the role he cherished most. He married the love of his life, Kirk Eveleth, on June 20, 1987, and together they built a lifelong relationship rooted in love, honesty, and commitment.
Nothing shaped David more than becoming a father to his children, Tory and Bill. Being a dad wasn’t just a role for David; it was his calling. In 1995, he left his career in software to raise them full-time, never missing a practice, a game, or a milestone, whether coaching from the sidelines or driving hours just to catch a game. He brought that same joy and enthusiasm to his role as “Pops” to his three grandchildren, Kennedy, Augusta, and Poppy.
Watching his children compete in high school, collegiate, and professional sports, David discovered a new passion behind the lens. As a sports photographer, he earned over 300 front-page covers with the New England Sports Journals, capturing hundreds of high school and college teams.
David’s love for family extended beyond his own household to his sister, Jane Mullin; his brother, Charlie Arnold; and his nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also joyfully welcomed Tory’s husband, Andy Bois, and Bill’s wife, Krissy McNeill, into the family, loving them as his own.
When not with family, David was likely on the golf course. He learned the game from his mother and joined Webhannet Golf Club in Kennebunk, in 1974, working the greens crew there as a teenager alongside his lifelong friend and cousin, Peter Arnold. A humble competitor, he rarely spoke of his tournament wins, but none meant more to him than the Parent-Child tournament, which he won as a child with his mother and decades later as a parent with his son, Bill. Golf was a passion he carried always, and one he proudly passed down to his children and grandchildren.
David is survived by his wife, Kirk Arnold; his daughter, Victoria “Tory” Arnold Bois, and her husband, Andy; his son, William “Bill” Arnold, and his wife, Krissy; his grandchildren, Kennedy Bois, Augusta Bois, and Poppy Arnold; his sister, Jane Arnold Mullin, and her husband, Sam; his brother, Charles Arnold; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A wake will be held on Thursday, August 13, from 4-6 p.m., at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, Maine. A funeral service will follow on Friday, August 14, at 10 a.m., at South Congregational Church, 2 North Street, Kennebunkport.
