Rooney Mara was the epitome of elegance as she joined her dapper husband Joaquin Phoenix at The Voice of Hind Rajab premiere at Venice Film Festival on Wednesday night.

The actress, 40, showed off her figure in a strapless black dress as she posed up a storm at the premiere for the film - for which her and Joaquin, 50, serve as executive producers.

The Voice of Hind Rajab was written and directed by Kaouther Ben Hania.

It follows the killing of Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl who lived in the Gaza Strip and was killed by the IDF during the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip.

At the premiere Rooney looked sensational in the lace dress which she teamed with sky-high heels and pulled her hair back. Meanwhile her partner looked smart in a black suit.

The film has been nominated for the Golden Lion prize and carries the support of Hollywood powerhouses including Brad Pitt, Joaquin, Rooney and Alfonso Cuarón, all of whom joined as executive producers.

The pair made a rare red carpet outing together to support the film

They sweetly put their arms around each other

Joaquin wore The Red Hand of Ulster badge, a symbol used in heraldry to denote the Irish province of Ulster and the Northern Uí Néill in particular.

In May 2025, it was announced Kaouther Ben Hania had directed an untitled film, with principal photography concluding in Tunisia

It stars Saja Kilani, Clara Khoury, Motaz Malhees and Amer Hlehel in the main lead roles.

Rooney and Joaquin originally met in 2012 playing lovers Theodore Twombly and Catherine Klausen on the LA set of Spike Jonze's AI rom-com Her, but they didn't start dating until after her 2016 split from her Discovery director Charlie McDowell.

The acting couple went on to co-star in Garth Davis' 2018 Biblical drama Mary Magdalene and Gus Van Sant's 2018 comedy Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot.

Only last year did Joaquin confirm Rooney was his 'wife' during an episode of Sam Fragaso's podcast.

The co-stars have been together since 2016, and they share two young children together.

They welcomed their first child, River - named after Joaquin's late brother River Phoenix - in August of 2020, and Rooney gave birth to their second child in June last year, but few details have been revealed about the younger child.

The Voice of Hind Rajab has been making waves at the festival so far.

Saja Kilani, who plays first responder Rana Faqih in the film, read out a joint statement at a press conference this week as she spoke about the Gaza conflict.

They looked as close as ever on the red carpet

She looked gorgeous in the leggy black dress

She said: 'In the name of the entire team, we ask, 'Isn't it enough?' Enough of the mass killing, starvation, dehumanisation, destruction and the ongoing occupation.

'The Voice of Hind Rajab does not need our defense. This film is not an opinion or a fantasy. It is anchored in truth.

'Hind's story carries the weight of an entire people. Hind's voice is one amongst tens of thousands of children that were killed in Gaza in the last two years alone.

'The real question is, how have we let a child beg for life? No one can live in peace, while even one child is forced to plea for survival.

'Let Hind's voice echo around the world. Let it remind you of the silence that has been built around Gaza.'

Hania, whose last film was the hugely-successful Four Daughters, said that the idea for the film came to her during a layover in LA, while she was in the middle of her Oscar campaign.

'Then, everything shifted. I heard an audio recording of Hind Rajab begging for help. By then, her voice had already spread across the internet,' she said.

'I immediately felt a mix of helplessness and an overwhelming sadness. A physical reaction, like the ground shifted under me. I couldn't carry on as planned.

'The Voice of Hind Rajab is a deeply personal story of loss, but also carries a wider resonance.

'This story is not just about Gaza. It speaks to a universal grief. Cinema can preserve a memory. Cinema can resist amnesia. May Hind Rajab's voice be heard.'
