UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards received an excellent reception as he paraded his belt on the pitch at half time during Aston Villa's win at home to Burnley.

Edwards, who was born in Jamaica, moved to Aston in Birmingham at the age of nine and is a huge Villa supporter.

He was presented with a Villa home shirt with 'Champ 1' on the back. 

The 32-year-old recently overcame Colby Covington by unanimous decision at UFC 296 in Las Vegas to defend his welterweight title.

Edwards was in attendance for a thrilling encounter at Villa Park, with Villa securing a 3-2 win against ten-man Burnley.

Leon Bailey put Villa in front, with Mohamed Zamdouni equalising for Burnley. Moussa Diaby then restored Villa's lead before Burnley's Sander Berge was sent off.

Lyle Foster scored for Burnley to make it 2-2, with Douglas Luiz then getting the winner for Villa from the penalty spot.

Villa are in second place in the Premier League and are level on points with leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand. 

Prior to the fight at UFC 296 Covington had mocked Edwards' late father.

After his victory Edwards said: 'This guy used my dad's death as entertainment,' Edwards said while holding back tears in the octagon. 'It took a lot for me to calm down, stay focused to win this fight.'

'He's a good competitor. But he's a dirty human being.'
