UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards revealed that he will defend his title at UFC 300 in Las Vegas again.

Taking to the pitch at Villa Park, the Aston Villa fan was presented with a home shirt which had 'Champ 1' written on the back.

The 32-year-old overcame Colby Covington by unanimous decision at UFC 296 in Las Vegas to defend his title earlier this month.

And now, during a half-time appearance during Aston Villa's win over Burnley, Edwards revealed he will once again defend his title in Las Vegas.

 'I will defend my belt in April at UFC 300 in Vegas again, then hopefully in the summertime get a fight back home in Birmingham at Villa Park,' he said.

'I’m in talks with the UFC, so hopefully we can get it done.'

Edward, who moved to Aston in Birmingham from Jamaica at the age of nine, will be keen to be holding his title for a fight at Villa Park. 

Beating Covington in fine fashion, Edwards got his revenge on his opponent after the fighter had mocked Edwards' late father prior to the fight.

'This guy used my dad's death as entertainment,' Edwards said while holding back tears after his victory. 

'It took a lot for me to calm down, stay focused to win this fight.'

'He's a good competitor. But he's a dirty human being.'

Edwards was back home over the festive period but will return to training ahead of his title defence, which he now revealed will take place back in Las Vegas in April.

It remains to be seen as to who he will face when he takes to the octagon in 2024.
