"It's more Thimbleweed Park"

Hark! I bring word of some good news for those of you with an appetite for adventure games with tasty pixel art. You may remember that Monkey Island creator Ron Gilbert was working on a game that was described as "Classic Zelda meets Diablo meets Thimbleweed Park." That got canned at the end of last year, unfortunately, but the spirit of Thimbleweed Park lives on. Literally! As Thimbleweed Park 2 is in the works.

"I have good news and bad news," Gilbert explains on his Grumpy Gamer blog, the good news being that "we just started production on Thimbleweed Park 2, due out in early 2028. We will self-publish with the help of a private investor. Mark Ferrari, Gary Winnick, David Fox, Octavi Navarro, Robert Megone, and others from the original team will be back! I’ll be starting up a Thimbleweed Park 2 dev blog like we did for Thimbleweed Park and posting regularly to keep everyone up to date." The bad news? There is none, he lied to us, which I'm told is something called a joke.

The game's Steam page, while currently bare bones, does offer a handful more details. Explaining that the sequel is "more Thimbleweed Park than ever," the description says agents Ray and Reyes are "back to investigate… or are they?" with this Schrodinger's investigation taking place at Edmund Mansion, focusing on a dead body. Interestingly, the game is also apparently "Not really a sequel. Not really a prequel. It’s more Thimbleweed Park and just as weird." Who knows what that means! I suppose we'll find out in 2028.

Outside of Ray and Reyes returning, there's also Ransome, who "can't believe they conned me into making another *beeping* game," Delores, who hears "this game will be twice as good as the last one," and Franklin, who hopes "the writers didn't forget about me," because all of these people are real and not accumulations of squares of colour and I won't hear otherwise.
