Originally a fuelie and painted in rare Charcoal, this green 1958 Corvette now has a period correct 283 small block V8 with a carburetor, and the new owner can choose between restoration or resto-modding.

Some Corvette fans want their classics exactly as they left St. Louis. Then there’s this 1958 Corvette, a car that’s clearly taken a few stylistic detours over the years — and wears them proudly.
We came across the 1958 Corvette listed on eBay with a “Buy It Now” price of $65,000 and became immediately intrigued.
Instead of its rare factory Charcoal finish, this one now sports green paint, a white soft top, and a set of aftermarket mag wheels. Whether that makes it cooler or a restoration candidate depends on your taste, but there’s no denying it gives the car a more aggressive, custom look. Considering only 700 ’58s originally left the factory in Charcoal, some buyers might be tempted to return it to stock.
But the real hook here is its pedigree: this Corvette left the factory as a fuel injection car. According to the seller, who was somewhat vague in the listing, the engine currently under the hood is a correct 1958 283 Corvette engine, just apparently not the original fuel injected one. For collectors, that means the car retains its FI heritage, even if the original unit is long gone.
The 1958 model year was a milestone for the Corvette, introducing quad headlights, a redesigned instrument panel, new upholstery, and those unmistakable non functional hood louvers paired with twin chrome trunk spears. Buyers loved the updates — sales soared to 9,168, the highest yet for the young Corvette brand after nearly doubling from ’56 to ’57.
The seller points out that it’s a “rare original condition” 1958 with both hard and soft tops, original carpet still in place (though it looks a little worn to us), excellent original dash, very nice original door panels, doors that “open and close perfect,” and replacement bumper pieces. The brakes were also recently serviced.
Most ’58s had manual transmissions, but this is one of 2,057 outfitted with a Powerglide automatic at a cost of $188.30. The hardtop was another $215.20 option.
In a video with the listing, the car cranked right up and reportedly runs very well, making it a solid candidate for either a full restoration or a fun, driver grade classic with a bit of attitude.
So, would you keep it like it sits, or take it back to the original St. Louis factory status?
