Chevrolet made an update to its 2027 Corvette Order Guide this week but instead of updating a certain option or mechanical entry, we got an update on the dry weight of the 2027 models that are now featuring the new LS6 V8 engine.

Surprisingly, the 2027 Corvette Stingray Coupe is just 26 pounds heavier (3,392 lbs) than the outgoing 2026 Corvette Stingray Coupe (3,366 lbs) while the Convertible model weighs in at 24 pounds heavier (3,491 vs 3,467).

The new 409ci LS6 V8 with 535-hp and 520 lb-ft of torque provides a remarkable upgrade over the outgoing LT2 with an increase of 45 horsepower and 55 lb-ft of torque when compared to the base Stingray model. When compared to the 2026 Stingray Z51, the increases are 40-hp and 50 lb-ft of torque. GM hasn’t published the weight of the LS6 that we can find, but these new specifications do provide us with an apples-to-apples comparison for the same model.

Both engines feature aluminum blocks with aluminum heads and a similar OHV valvetrain, so the additional weight is probably due to a number of factors including the dual-injection hardware, a larger intake/throttle body, and the new cooling and oiling hardware. But without knowing the full standalone weight of the engines, we can’t just attribute the new LS6 V8 engine as being the only source of the 2027’s slight weight gain.

The Grand Sport model is new for 2027, and Chevrolet also provided the specifications for the car. The 2027 GS Coupe has a dry weight of 3,520 lbs while the Convertible model is 3,619 lbs.

For the Grand Sport X, those numbers are 3,800 lbs for the Coupe while the Convertible weighs in a 3,899 lbs. As this model is the successor to the outgoing E-Ray, we see that the GSX Coupe weight is just 26 lbs more than the E-Ray Coupe, while the GSX Convertible model comes in at 43 lbs heavier than the E-Ray Convertible.

The dry weights for the Z06, ZR1, and ZR1X remain unchanged from their previous specifications. Here are the dry weights for all 2027 C8 models:

Stingray
• Coupe: 3,392 lbs
• Convertible: 3,491 lbs

Grand Sport
• Coupe: 3,520 lbs
• Convertible: 3,619 lbs

Grand Sport X
• Coupe: 3,800 lbs
• Convertible: 3,899 lbs

Z06
• Coupe: 3,500 lbs
• Convertible: 3,599 lbs

ZR1
• Coupe: 3,670 lbs
• Convertible: 3,769 lbs

ZR1X
• Coupe: 3,914 lbs
• Convertible: 4,013 lbs

Chevrolet also loves to discuss the power-to-weight ratios because their V8 engines produce big power from the relatively light aluminum blocks, and it’s great way to compare the Corvette engine’s power to competitors with turbocharged or hybrid powerplants. The new LS6 also showed big improvements there as well as the base Stingray’s LS6 is 6.35 lbs/hp versus the 6.78 lbs/hp in the outgoing LT2.

Here are the power-to-weight ratios (lbs. / hp) for the 2027 Corvette Line Up:

Stingray
• Coupe: 6.34
• Convertible: 6.53

Grand Sport
• Coupe: 6.58
• Convertible: 6.76

Grand Sport X
• Coupe: 5.27
• Convertible: 5.41

Z06
• Coupe: 5.22
• Convertible: 5.37

ZR1
• Coupe: 3.45
• Convertible: 3.54

ZR1X
• Coupe: 3.13
• Convertible: 3.21

At the end of the day, the small bump in dry weight for the 2027 Corvettes will be inconsequential for 99.9% of all Corvette buyers. The real performance number to keep in mind are the power-to-weight ratios which shows that Chevy engineers now exactly how to make every pound work in the Corvette’s favor.
