After updating to One UI 8.5, many AT&T users on various Samsung phones are reporting that video calls with other Android phones aren’t working when the call is made through the phone app.

Even if the other device is a Samsung phone, video chats simply fail. It keeps showing the “Video declined” pop-up. Even if the video call is made from the other device, the same error message pops up.

The issues notably began after the update, since the feature was working perfectly fine before.

Exactly which devices are affected is unclear, since the reports mention various S23, S24, and S25 series of devices, and even some A series models. It’s not happening to everyone, since some report that their devices were affected, while others in the same house still have a working video call button.

AT&T allegedly told some users that it’s an issue on Samsung’s end. Funnily enough, Samsung Support claims that it’s an AT&T issue.

At the moment, it’s unclear whether it’s an issue with AT&T or Samsung. Some comments claim that AT&T attempted to fix something in the back-end, but it didn’t resolve the problem.

While we don’t have sufficient information to pin the issue on Samsung, we can assume something broke after the One UI 8.5 update, since that’s when most of these reports started coming in.

Additionally, users note that Google Meet still works perfectly fine after the update, and people have resorted to it as a temporary alternative.

Understandably, many users are frustrated about the issue, since there aren’t any workarounds that resolve it entirely. Until either side fixes the bug, users are left without the option to video chat via AT&T.

Some users report that the call itself might connect, but the video doesn’t show up. Tapping on the camera icon to switch to video mode results in the same “Video declined” pop-up message.

A few other speculations floating around are that the update might have broken camera permissions for Samsung’s phone app, which is why it keeps declining calls. The user was also unable to manually grant permissions for the camera. If this claim is correct, then Samsung needs to resolve it.

For now, you can report the issue directly to Samsung through the Samsung Members app, and considering the volume of reports (hundreds reported on the forum), the company will likely work on a fix soon.
