A boil water advisory is in effect for several developments in Plumstead Township, Pennsylvania.
Officials said Friday that an equipment failure led to a temporary loss of adequate disinfection at a well at the Country Green Treatment Plant. The well is one of five that make up Plumstead Township’s Northern Water System, officials said.
As a result, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) required a boil water advisory for customers who live in the following areas and developments in Plumstead Township:
Country Green
Cabin Run and Landis Green
Timberly Farms
Plumstead Woods
Plumstead Preserve
Windtree
Holly Ridge
Lantern Ridge
Plumstead Villa
The boil water advisory also impacts the Plumstead Commercial Business area, officials said.
Under the advisory, impacted residents should bring all water that’s used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes or preparing food to a rolling boil for at least five minutes before using. They can also replace it with bottled water.
Officials have not revealed when the advisory will be lifted. The DEP requires two straight days of satisfactory laboratory testing to confirm the water is safe. The water samples must also undergo an incubation period before they can be analyzed.
“As a result, the typical minimum timeframe is 3–5 days, even after the equipment issue has been corrected,” a Plumstead Township official wrote. “These requirements are in place to ensure the safety of our drinking water.”
Officials also said the following areas in Plumstead Township are NOT impacted by the boil water advisory:
Belmont Farms
Carriage Hill
Country Ridge
Durham Ridge
Estates of Brookside
Fox Hunt Estates
Garden Village
Meetinghouse Estates
North Branch
Old Mill Estates
Owls Nest Farm
Patriots Ridge
Plumstead Chase
Summer Hill
Summer Meadow
Tollgate Farms
