The Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) universe is headed to more places, including Azeroth and a galaxy far, far away. Following in the footsteps of Magic: The Gathering, which saw crossovers with big-name franchises such as Final Fantasy, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Marvel, Wizards of the Coast has announced a collaboration between its tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) and World of Warcraft, as well as Star Wars.

As shared in an official post by Blizzard, the D&D: World of Warcraft expansion will introduce six new subclasses — Oath of the Ebon Blade and Oath of the Holy Paladin, the Demon Hunter Ranger, the Shadow Domain and Discipline Domain Cleric, and the Path of the Elements Barbarian — and three updated ones, alongside 11 new species that allow for any race and class combination. In addition to seven dungeons, it also ships with 30 dungeon boss stat blocks, over 60 new spells, over 50 new monsters, and tailored mechanics for professions, mounts, companion creatures, and faction awards.

Paying homage to one of Azeroth’s most legendary raids is the Icecrown Citadel Map Pack, featuring full-size poster maps and tokens usable with a digital adventure that raise the player’s character by four levels. Launching on 17 November, the 256-page themed adventure is the first in a line of Universes Beyond crossover offerings, revealed in a roadmap during Gen Con 2026, with Star Wars poised to follow in 2027.

Not much else is known about the latter project, but it will include a gameplay book set in the Season of Rebellion as part of the Universes Beyond lineup. Among the additional announcements at Gen Con 2026 are the Arcana Unleashed books, themed around magical subclasses, items, and a campaign involving the Red Wizards of Thay faction, the return of the Dark Sun setting, D&D Icons, a new creative programme run by writer and actor Joe Manganiello that brings together D&D creatives, and a fresh mobile experience for D&D Beyond.

The crossover expansions are a testament to how far the TTRPG has come from its early days of negativity and weirdness associated with a “nerdy” hobby, with recent media such as Stranger Things and the 2023 film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves pushing it into mainstream popularity. In the years since, it has joined forces with Converse, LEGO, and other brands, while Amazon’s The Legend of Vox Machina, based on the campaigns of the popular D&D web series Critical Role, proved to be a hit. A fifth and final season is in production.
