On February 26, the Law Institute of Altai State University hosted the highly anticipated International Scientific and Practical Conference Dialogue of the Legal Systems of Russia and Indonesia.

Director of the Law Institute, Doctor of Law, Professor Evgeny Anichkin, emphasized that the forum's theme and level were unprecedented:

"At the forum, the scholars from Russia and Indonesia jointly explored the civilizational foundations of their countries and shared best practices in pre-trial conciliation procedures, the investigation of telephone fraud and other contemporary crimes, and the digitalization of transactions. The analysis of modern legal practice in their presentations was supported by a historical review of traditional law. Drawing on the positive experience of their predecessors, the legal scholars proposed measures to strengthen technological sovereignty while preserving traditional culture, languages, and arts of sovereign peoples."

Professors Marius Sakmaf, Bak Sapia, and Jumiran, together with Associate Professors Henky Saiba, Nanang Ibrahim, Anthony Ramburen, and Annie Martha Sesil, among others, presented papers on behalf of Indonesian universities, including the University of Indonesia, Air Langa University, Padjadjaran University, and others. On the Russian side, papers were presented by Professors Evgeny Anichkin, Doctor of Law, and Vitaly Sorokin, Doctor of Law. Graduate students also actively participated in the discussions.

During the conference, Professor Vitaly Sorokin presented the collective monograph, The Legal System of Indonesia, previously published:

"The project, beautifully printed, was carried out in English. This book has already received awards at an international competition as one of the best publications of 2025. Each year, the Law Institute prepares a series of books on the legal systems of countries friendly to Russia. The Legal System of Uzbekistan, The Legal System of Kazakhstan, The Legal System of the Kyrgyz Republic, and The Legal System of Tajikistan have already been published. Now, the new volume is the first book in Russia dedicated specifically to the peculiarities of Indonesian law. Of its 30 contributors, 18 are Indonesian legal scholars. This publication exemplifies a true dialogue of civilizations—an idea clearly embodied in its pages.

The organizers and participants of the international conference contribute directly to the development of civil and scientific diplomacy, helping to open new avenues of cooperation between peaceful nations. Such events underscore the importance of creating joint, strategically significant humanitarian platforms. Through these initiatives, Altai State University has established itself as one such platform.

In his address, Doctor of Law Marius Sakmaf emphasized that the Institute of Law at ASU has initiated and fostered a dialogue between the legal systems of Indonesia and Russia, to the mutual benefit of both countries. Indonesian scholars expressed their readiness to continue this cooperation.
