СпутникиРНSpaceXРоскосмосNASAThe weakening of universal institutions’ response mechanisms to contemporary global geopolitical and geoeconomic processes has not only become one of the key causes of the crisis of world order and the fragmentation of the international system as a whole but has also led to the strengthening of individual regional centers of power. The current world order no longer serves the interests of most countries, complicating both compliance with international law and the resolution of conflicts and crises. Against this backdrop, individual regions are emerging, developing along their own trajectories based on shared historical, religious, cultural, military-political, and economic factors. In this regard, regional studies, on the one hand, contribute to a deep understanding of integration and disintegration processes and a comprehensive analysis of the emergence of conflicts and crises, and on the other, allow us to assess the role of regional centers of power in shaping the global agenda. Moreover, a regional approach to studying issues related to historical disputes, ethnocultural differences, competition for hydrocarbon and water resources, etc., allows for a better understanding of a region’s socioeconomic conditions, its evolution, its natural and human resources, its position relative to major trade and transport corridors, its potential place in the context of possible global developments, as well as its strengths and weaknesses. Thereby, each region differs to some extent from other regional structures in the elements of its formation, although there are common factors that determine their evolution and current state. Thus, the importance of regional studies lies in their special role in understanding the formation of new models of interaction in conditions of geopolitical turbulence and unpredictability, as well as in identifying the factors influencing the emergence of a new global governance architecture.
