The major flood wave in Assam began around 19–20 July 2026, following several days of heavy rainfall that caused rivers such as the Dikhow, Disang, and Dhansiri to overflow in Upper Assam. The flooding inundated villages, damaged infrastructure, disrupted transport across districts including Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, and Golaghat, and prompted extensive rescue and relief operations. In this context, a video is being shared on social media (here, here, and here) with the claim that it shows the dead bodies of victims of the 2026 Assam floods. Let’s verify the truth behind the video in this article.

Claim: The video shows the dead bodies of people who died in the Assam floods.

Fact: The video is staged and does not show a real incident. It is unrelated to the Assam floods and was uploaded by an Instagram creator named Simran SK on 03 July 2026, more than two weeks before the floods began in Assam. Hence, the claim made in the post is Misleading.

A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to the same video (archived) uploaded by Instagram creator Simran SK on 03 July 2026. According to reports (here, here), the incessant rainfall that triggered the Assam floods began on 19 July 2026, more than two weeks after the video was uploaded. This clearly establishes that the video predates the Assam floods and is unrelated to the disaster.

Upon reviewing the Instagram account, we found another video (archived) showing similar visuals of people lying motionless on the ground as if they were dead bodies. In the second part (archived) of the same video uploaded on the account, the same individuals seen acting as dead bodies in the first part can be seen getting up after it is announced that the video shoot is over. This clearly confirms that the scene was staged and created for entertainment purposes, not as footage of a real incident.

To sum up, a staged video is falsely shared as showing the dead bodies of 2026 Assam flood victims.
