Align operation not working. Objects moves to wrong position after hitting OK on Align dialog

I'm having difficulty aligning two objects.I select a line on the object that I want to move.I select the target line on target object.And having selected that I see that it has performed the move/alignment exactly as I want it to be.But then I hit the OK button on the Align dialog and it moves it again to a completely incorrect position.Why is it doing a subsequent move?How do I get it to leave it exactly where I specify the target location?
