According to social media user Ankit Pandey, his friend left an Rs 11 LPA 9-to-5 job and returned home to start a water purification business. With his own property, around 300 regular customers and a simple daily-need product, he now reportedly makes around Rs 2.35 lakh in monthly profit. His story highlights the potential of solving everyday problems.

Ankit Pandey took to X and shared the story of a friend who decided to leave his Rs 11 LPA corporate job in Bengaluru. Instead of continuing to chase promotions and salary hikes, the man reportedly returned home and started a water purification business.

Pandey said the entrepreneur installed a water purification plant on his own property. This eliminated the need to pay rent, while also allowing him to build a business around a product that households and shops regularly need.

According to Pandey, the business has connected around 300 homes and shops across multiple colonies. The entrepreneur reportedly supplies approximately 300 water cans every day to his regular customers. Each can is sold for Rs 30. At that rate, the reported daily revenue works out to around Rs 9,000.

That translates into approximately Rs 2.7 lakh in monthly revenue, assuming similar sales throughout the month. The business therefore relies on volume and repeat customers rather than selling an expensive product at a high margin.

Pandey also shared the estimated monthly expenses involved in running the business. According to his post, water purification and electricity costs are around Rs 15,000 a month. Transportation costs approximately Rs 20,000. The biggest advantage is that the entrepreneur reportedly pays no rent because the purification plant operates on his own property.

Based on these figures, Pandey estimated that the business generates an average monthly profit of around Rs 2.35 lakh. That would translate into nearly Rs 28.5 lakh a year. The figures are estimates shared by Pandey and are based on the business maintaining the reported sales volume and expenses.

The story highlights an important aspect of entrepreneurship: a business does not necessarily have to be glamorous to be profitable. Water is a basic daily necessity, meaning the business addresses a recurring requirement rather than relying entirely on occasional purchases.

The reported 300-home-and-shop customer base also suggests the importance of building repeat demand. Once customers regularly depend on a supplier, consistent service can become just as important as the product itself.
The use of an existing property also significantly changes the economics of the business by removing a recurring rental expense.

The biggest change in the story was not the business itself but the decision to leave the corporate path. Pandey said his friend chose to go home “instead of chasing promotions” and build something independently.

But in this case, according to Pandey's account, the entrepreneur built a business around a simple local need and created a reported income substantially higher than his previous salary.
