Previous reports indicated that Samsung has reassigned the standard naming scheme to a shorter, wider foldable. The latest leaks from internal FCC documentation depicting the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra only cement those rumors.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 will not look like the standard book-style foldable from Samsung. We’ve seen reports that note Samsung wants to repurpose that name for a smaller but wider foldable. Initially, it was expected to have a name that properly described the form factor, but it truly seems that isn’t the case.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra looks like what we’re used to seeing from the standard Z Fold flagship, and more leaks confirm that. Fresh FCC listings label an image of what looks like the standard-sized foldable tied to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and its identity code, SM-F976U (via Droid Life).

The leak timeline is all a bit confusing, but the basis of Samsung’s new lineup boils down to two devices. The Galaxy Z Fold 8, a wider foldable with more baseline specs better fitting the basic name, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, expected to have better internals than previous iterations while keeping the same form factor as the historically standard offering.

That name was confirmed in online certification listings after being leaked just a week before.

The new report also notes several Galaxy Watch models and their counterparts. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and two Galaxy Watch 9 models appear on that list. The Watch 9 is expected to have two sizing variants, similar to previous launches. A Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 making an appearance is an interesting one, but not totally unexpected. This is a new version of the watch Samsung decided to re-released a year later with the Watch 8.

There is little more information to dwell on in these leaks, but Samsung isn’t far off from a full release during Unpacked 2026.
