TSA PreCheck has been trying to speed travel times up with the addition of Touchless ID, which essentially allows passengers to walk through the enhanced security queue without stopping. Google Wallet is adding an option to opt in for Touchless ID through saved boarding passes.

Touchless ID is a great alternative to physically flashing your ID at security checkpoints in the airport. That is, if the option is available for you. Plenty of airports still don’t support it at TSA PreCheck checkpoints, and only a few airlines allow passengers to use it. Still, it’s only a matter of time before it becomes a standard.

Google Wallet announced that users will be able to sign up for Touchless ID using the app. A boarding pass needs to be added to the Google Wallet app, and the user needs to be approved for TSA PreCheck. On top of that, Google Wallet users will need to create a local ID Pass on their device. If those criteria are met, the boarding pass will offer the option to opt in for Touchless ID.

The TSA PreCheck Touchless ID verification process is still handled outside of the Google Wallet app, but this digital method allows users to find and sign up for Touchless ID, if it’s available for them. Many airline apps seem to hide the function, and it’s almost impossible to sign up for quicker screening once you’ve arrived at the airport.

According to Google, eligible users should see a “get started” button after their boarding pass is added. Once the process is complete and the TSA approves the user, a badge will show up on the digital boarding pass, just in case you need to verify that you’ve been approved.

In the end, users who access Touchless ID through the new Google Wallet feature won’t need to open the app at all.

This comes as Google continues to roll out support for more digital IDs, including passports and state IDs.
