Dropkick Murphys singer Ken Casey questions why NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suggested Bad Bunny not bring any political discourse to his Super Bowl halftime performance this Sunday, when the same league held moments of silence for slain right-wing activist Charlie Kirk earlier this season.

Goodell was asked at a press conference about Bad Bunny’s anti-ICE messaging at the recent Grammy Awards, to which he responded, “Bad Bunny is … one of the great artists in the world, and that’s one of the reasons we chose him.”

However, Goodell went on to say, “He understood the platform he was on [at the Grammys], and that this [Super Bowl] platform is used to unite people and to be able to bring people together with their creativity, with their talent, and to be able to use this moment to do that. I think artists in the past have done that, I think Bad Bunny understands that, and I think he’ll have a great performance.”

Consequence caught up with Casey in advance of Dropkick Murphys’ upcoming St. Patrick’s Day tour (pick up tickets here), and we asked the punk frontman about his thoughts on Bad Bunny playing halftime and Green Day performing during the opening ceremony of the Super Bowl.

“I heard the NFL say that it’s not a platform for political discourse and told them not to [get political], but they also made everybody sit through a Charlie Kirk moment of silence,” Casey told us in the video below. “Someone told me you can bet on whether they will, which is just wild.”

He added, “I’ll say this: you have two great American artists. Bad Bunny is American — he won me over the minute I saw Happy Gilmore 2. I thought, ‘This guy is great,’ and my daughter had to tell me, ‘Dad, that’s Bad Bunny.’ I love him. The guy’s the biggest artist in the world, and we should be celebrating it whether you like his music or not.”

Casey went on to criticize Turning Point USA’s “All-American Halftime Show,” which will see Kid Rock performing as counter-programming to Bad Bunny’s set on the Super Bowl stage.

“For people who call others ‘snowflakes’ so much, you are the biggest snowflakes I’ve ever met in my life,” declared Casey. “Enjoy changing the channel over to watch Kid Rock. I can’t wait to see what the ratings are between Bad Bunny and Kid Rock. Let’s see where Americans are really putting their eyeballs.”

Dropkick Murphys made their own anti-ICE statement with their new track “Citizen I.C.E.,” which was officially released earlier this week.
