The Chicago area has already seen watches and warnings posted for severe weather Monday, with more possible.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Lake, DuPage, Cook, Will and Kankakee counties in Illinois, along with all of northwest Indiana.
Wind gusts of up to 70 miles per hour are possible, and some locations are already reporting golf ball-size hail as the storms pass through.
NBC 5’s Interactive Radar is capturing the scene as the storm system approaches the area.
Storms could continue into the afternoon hours, though they’re expected to be more scattered in nature. High temperatures in the 90s are also expected, with heat indices potentially exceeding 110 degrees in some locations.
