We swung through Ferelden and Lace insisted. I think Varric was a little worried but once you meet Ma Harding, you have no choice but to love her. Not in that way. Varric was intimidated by Lace and that went double for Ma.“We stayed five nights. Ma didn’t really need the help then, but Varric and I saw how happy Lace was to spend time at home, so we extended what was supposed to just be an overnight stop. It was the upside and the downside of searching for Solas in the early days. We were never close enough to be in a rush.“The first night we were there, Ma made her potato stew. It was one of the most delicious things I’d eaten up to that point. I thought Varric was going to burst open at how much he ate. The next day, she made cheese toasties for lunch, and I said I really liked the cheese. No, it wasn’t the revered mother’s knickers cheese, it was just a good Ferelden cheese. I don’t remember saying anything special, but Ma Harding grabbed hold of my compliment and ran with it.“That night, she made the apple cheesy butter noodles with cheesy bread on the side for dinner. At breakfast, we had cheesy eggs and toast. Cheese toasties for lunch. Cheese souffle for dinner. Cheese omelet for breakfast, more cheese toasties, then for dinner, she made cacio e pepe after tracking down a recipe from a neighbor. It was pretty good, honestly. Ma is talented.“For breakfast the next day, she made cheesy potato pancakes. Lunch was cheese toasties, of course. For dinner, she made a cheesy potato casserole. She insisted on making us cheese toasties with eggs for breakfast and sending us back on our way with our bags filled with cheese sandwiches.“We made it to the next town and ended up staying there for two nights because Varric and I were so sick from eating so much cheese. Lace laughed at us the whole time for being defeated by Ferelden cheese.”“That’s a lot of cheese.”“Have I told you about Kirkwall?”“No! Lucanis said there was no cheese in Kirkwall and I don’t understand why he told me that when I asked how the trip was. But tell me that later. Did Lace take care of you anyway?” “Of course she did.
