Chicago Executive Airport shut down after plane leaves runway after landing

Chicago Executive Airport in suburban Wheeling was briefly closed Tuesday after a plane left a runway after landing on the tarmac.
According to officials at the airport, a business jet landed on a runway at the airport at approximately 5:27 p.m. While that airplane was turning onto an adjacent taxiway, its landing gear left the paved surface and became stuck, according to officials.
Footage from the airport showed the right wing of the plane resting on the ground on the side of a taxiway, with a large emergency response unfolding after the incident.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, with two individuals safely evacuated off the plane according to airport officials.
One of the airport’s runways has since reopened, but the airport is awaiting clearance from the FAA and NTSB before removing the plane and allowing full operations to resume, according to a press release.
Audio recordings from the airport captured the scene as the pilot told air traffic controllers they had a mechanical issue warning in the cockpit. The plane then returned to the airport, where its landing gear became stuck as it turned onto the taxiway.
