NEW YORK, September 29. /TASS/. Iranian officials are pessimistic about the prospects of reaching a ceasefire before the US midterm elections in November, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

According to the sources, talks in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly last week failed to produce significant progress. Tehran believes there is a high likelihood of the conflict escalating after the US vote.

Trump said earlier this month that he was confident the war with Iran would end immediately after the November congressional elections, or possibly even before then. The US midterm elections will be held on November 3, with 33 of the Senate’s 100 seats and all 435 seats in the House of Representatives up for election.
