UNITED NATIONS, September 26. /TASS/. Russia expects that the 10th UN Secretary-General to be selected before the end of 2026 will not serve the interests of certain countries only or disrupt the intergovernmental system of the global body, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, addressing the General Debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

"We expect that the new Secretary-General whom we should elect between the end of this year will <…> represent the entire international community, rather than serve the interests of separate countries, and refrain from undermining the intergovernmental nature of the UN system or the prerogatives of the [UN] Security Council and its permanent members," he maintained.
