If I have a tig with a 8-pole control socket can I plug a 5-pin torch into it?

More information needed.
Which ewm machine is it because ewm use a 5 pin tuchel plugs and sockets.
For the torch on/off control it’s just pins 1 and 2

You would have to buy the plug suitable for your welder or if you have several welders that you wish to use the torch on then you could buy a plug to suit each welder and sockets to suit the torch and make up a couple of short adapter leads.

Well I can't be 100% sure and someone more familiar with EWM Tigs may know differently, maybe @Jim Davey would chime in.

It's only because a mate of mine has a small torch that I thought would be handy for the price but looks like it will need a plug change which will make it expensive for what it is!

Note- I am talking specifically about an ewm, if you look on the website the same machine is supplied with either 5, 8 or 12 pin socket. I thought they might have been clever with the plugs so they were downwards compatible!

All the ewm tigs I know of simply use the 5 pin tuchel plug. It’s a common plug used on Lorch and Lincoln and probably other sets as well. Cheap copies are available if price is a problem. I certainly wouldn’t say they were expensive. Even the genuine ones are reasonable. Just buy the plug and fit it to your torch.

Sure your not referring to the pedal socket? That’s probably about 8 pins. What ewm do you have?
Why make up a converter socket? Surely it’s easier and a neater solution to just put on the correct plug? I’m not really understanding the complexity of this. That’s the thing about making a preferred torch suit a machine. I’ve done it with mine. You buy and fit the plug.

Pretty sure the plugs are all SOURIAU, I baulked at the £50.00 I paid for my first torch plug, so did some research £12.50 from Farnel

i'm in the same boat. I have an EWM 230 ACDC with 8 pin control and i want to fit a non-EWM tig torch. Can you send me the part number please. Also what pin configuration does the plug have - are they soldered or crimped or something else and if they are crimped do i need a special tool?
